Dear Ambassador Zara Jane, We’re thrilled to launch two new UN Groups under the UNIN Umbrella: on Culture of Innovation and Innovation Scaling. Innovation Scaling There are many innovative programmes currently being developed in the UN. However, many struggle to move from pilots to successfully scaled-up initiatives that create lasting impact. UNIN’s new Innovation Scaling group, hosted in collaboration with UN Global Pulse, will seek to: - Develop and share knowledge and expertise on innovation scaling;
- Accelerate the adoption of good practices in scaling innovation;
- Facilitate an honest exchange of technical challenges;
- Bring views from outside the UN into the realm of the community; and
- Encourage active participation, spur collaboration and nurture two-way learning.
We’ll kick off with a webinar in July to discuss what works and what does not in the realm of innovation scaling. |

Culture of InnovationEverybody strives to create a culture of innovation. But what does it actually look like and how could you help to create it in your team or organisation? Who has successfully created such a culture? And how can we create spaces to practice such a culture together? Since announcing the new workstream, we’ve held a coffee chats, exchanged approaches, piloted a “remote office” (a digital coworking space), and learnt and practiced hosting more engaging meetings. What’s coming up and how you can get involved? - We’re starting a new season of coffee chats in a connect-learn-share format where we get inspirations for promoting a culture of innovation (e.g. a tool, skill, example or a failure!) and discuss how this relates to our work. We’ll soon also be launching “Changemakers Chronicles” - short (voice notes) stories from colleagues.
- We’ll relaunch the Changemakers Book Club during the summer months to read inspiring articles together and discuss them

Finally, together with UN - DPPA and the Data Strategy Team, we recently created a new practice group focusing on Generative AI. This Group aims to foster an understanding of Generative AI, create a comprehensive landscape of applications across the UN, and develop a knowledge repository. Reach out to join us!
We look forward to engaging with you on these topics going forward!
All the best,
Emma, Johanna & Ruth
PS: Do you know any talented young community builders and innovators? We’re looking for a paid intern to join team UNIN this summer! Do spread the word! |
